And suddenly, a cozy fantasy audiobook

Rejoice, my readers! DEATHMARK is now available in audiobook format. The lovely and talented Lillian Rachel has brought this cozy fantasy to life, and it’s ready for your listening pleasure.

I chose October 23rd as the official release date for my own internal records. However, the various retailer channels are still going live, and will continue to do so over the next 2 – 4 weeks. Here’s the current availability:

I’ll update as more vendors connect the dots. (And heads up: if you’re holding out for Audible, it will likely be mid-November. I didn’t use their affiliated platform for distribution, so they’ll take an extra chunk of time for QC. But it will be there soon-ish.)

Behind the scenes

Of all my novels, this one has—quizzically—received the most requests for an audiobook. In contemplating how to bring that about, I felt that Lillian would be a good fit as a narrator. She did a phenomenal job with THE LEGENDARY INGE, so I knew I could trust her with these characters.

And she really brought her A game.

If you’ve read DEATHMARK already, you know it has a more serious tone than some of my other titles, including INGE. (But not as serious as, say, THE HEIR AND THE SPARE, which I recently discovered is technically a Fantasy Thriller. Haha. Who knew?) Although mostly cozy fantasy, it has its share of drama too. Lillian imbues a quiet sincerity to Nell and Rowe, and she expertly breathes life into the cast of secondary characters they encounter.

I truly hope you love her interpretation of the text.

A rose by any other name

For those who haven’t read it yet, let me reassure: however ominous the title sounds, the book features a certain domesticity in its primary storyline.

In hindsight, I had no business naming it something so doom-and-gloomy. Mea culpa.

Coziness aside, though, the magical plague is the story’s driving force, a simmering undercurrent that propels both Nell and Rowe through their respective character arcs. So, the title stands.

If you’ve been on the fence because of it, though, I went ahead and brainstormed some alternatives:

  • The Necromancers’ Curse
  • Kingdom of Death and Decay
  • Of Bells and Butterflies
  • Elegy of a Former Tavern Wench
  • Nell’s Adventures in a Marriage of Convenience
  • The Silver Thread Chronicles
  • Love in the Time of Magical Plagues
  • Bread and Cheese for Dinner, Lawbreaking for Dessert

Okay, okay. I’ll stop now. I think we can all agree that I’m generally bad with book titles, but I could be SO MUCH WORSE. Thank your lucky stars I’m a minimalist at heart.

Anyway, if you want to read about a woman with no future, a man running from his past, and the sinister curse that binds them together, snag your audiobook copy of DEATHMARK today!
